Lorena Gonçalves de Alcântara e Freitas (LinkedIn) joined the MIP:Lab in 2016 as a PhD student under co-supervision of Prof. Dimitri Van De Ville and Prof. Petra Hüppi (Faculty of Medicine, Université de Genève). Her research project investigates signal processing methodologies to study neurodevelopment in preterm infants. Lorena’s work will contribute to a wider project which aims at selecting interventions to prevent cognitive and emotional vulnerabilities caused by premature birth.
Lorena obtained her MSc in Neuroscience in 2015, with a double diploma from the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (The Netherlands), with a full scholarship from the NEURASMUS Programme. She developed her thesis project on EEG-based Brain Computer Interfaces at the Technische Universität Berlin. She then worked at Imperial College London (UK), monitoring awareness in anaesthetised patients during surgery using multi-modal data. Lorena holds a BSc in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (Brazil), with an exchange year at Grenoble INP - ENSIMAG (France), where she specialised in Information Systems Engineering. She has also worked as a Software Developer and Deployment Analyst for two years in Brazil.
